Planar Split

- a two person show featuring the works from the outrageous minds of James Ulmer and Lance Simmons

Opening Reception:  Friday, February 3, 2012,  6 – 10 pm

with live music from Dick Neff and Charles Cohen

“Planar” refers to that which is flat or two dimensional. The works of Simmons and Ulmer are two sides of the same stock. In these works both artists allude to a certain dilated perception through their use of simplistic two-dimensional imagery.

James Ulmer presents new drawings that are at once playful and provocative. Using a format of clusters and compartments James creates an amalgamation of scattered memories both real and imagined.
On his side of Planar Split, Lance Simmons explores anachronistic sci-fi folk art through configurations of marker and silk-screened ink on paper. Aspects of standard third and fourth dimensions are minimized to allow for smoother flux of further adjacent reaches.

‘Wheat Paste Your Heart Out’ at AUX Space

Part-timer, Dietrich Meyer, and Linnea Vegh present to you Wheat Paste Your Heart Out, a celebration of Philadelphia’s wheat pasters. We will be showcasing the 30, 4′x8′, panels that we have placed around the city and what the cities artists have done with them. We will also be constructing a large installation that will be put in Vox’s new AUX space. So come out on this night, November 12th, to celebrate the artists in this city of ours! By The Yard

The word around town is that there is a show at Part Time Studios where they are selling handmade fabrics, paper, bunting, garland, ribbon and more! 25 female artists have all worked hard to create yardage for all of you to check out, purchase, and use. The show is called By the Yard. It is curated by Halligan Smith and Lydia Trott. It features work by:

Maura Grace, Katie Miller, Pia Panaligan, Melissa Choi, Emily Isabella, Haylie Waring, Peri Sokol, Sandy Smith, Harper Poe, Chelsea Cook, Caitlin Mociun, Julia Koral, Briana Sergent, Shauna Alterio, Kate Thomas, Allison Nadeau, Sarah Lee Parker, Megan Swanson, Tennyson Tippy, Kasia Jacquot, Haley Harmon, and Diva Pyari

So stop by November 4th from 6-10. The Dapper Dog food truck will be parked outside ready to sell you some delish gourmet hot dogs, and we’ll have some free goodies inside too. If you can’t make it for the opening then come to the closing Nov. 19th from 6-10.

First Friday in September!

Part Time Studios is very excited to announce a two-person show, featuring Philly artists, Brad Haubrich and Dewey Saunders.  The show is entitled The Skull, The Bottle, The Flower, The Mountain, and is based around four collaborative pieces that represent these things.

“Miraculously drawn together by the almighty powers of this universe, two Philadelphia-based artists have embarked on a collaborative journey. A timeless journey in which, like so many before it, the emphasis has been squarely rested upon the shoulders of an unpredictable process, as opposed to the fruits it may yield. Four objects have been chosen to set the stage for this adventure that will be coming to a brilliant end on Friday, September 2nd, at Part Time Studios!”
There will also be a t-shirt released as a collaboration between Brad Haubrich and some very good friends of his!
